D. longipetala is native to Bolivia and Chile where it is found growing on slopes in dry terrain. The leaves have sharp spines that line that margin and a blue to bright green epidermis. Deuterocohnia longipetala grows best in full sun to partial shade, sitting in well-draining soils.
