Make sure all traces of the old label are removed. This includes any old glue residue. Goo Gone is a great product for removing the old glue residue, used in conjunction with a plastic scraper. Once the label surface is clean and dry, carefully peel back about 1/3 of the label and fold the paper backing underneath.
