This puzzle while listed as new is in an opened box. The puzzle has never been assembled as evidenced by the little squares still in the interlocking pieces. I counted the pieces and counted well over 1000, but my wife read the instructions, and the pieces with red lines need to be discarded. I am confident that the parts are all there however. The pieces are made of 1/4 inch thick foam with a layer of thick paper or cardboard on which the puzzle is printed. Please see photos as they are part of the description.
