Original Art By Mildred Nungester Wolfe, Jackson, MS

Mildred Nungester Wolfe, Aug. 23, 1912 - Feb. 11, 2009, was just 26 yrs old when she drew this in 1938. She was among Mississippi’s most prominent artists. Best known for regionalism or American scene painting. Her portrait of Eudora Welty hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. I believe this is a pencil or charcoal drawing and portrays two men hauling cotton bales with a wagon pulled by mules. It was framed by Jackson Glass & Mirror Co. Jackson, MS. Please examine the photos, the paper is torn on the back and there is a rectangle shaped darker spot in the middle, I assume it is just from age.
