This adapter is required to use an Apple Cinema Display HD 30" on any Macs that use Mini DisplayPort connections, because the Apple Cinema Display HD 30" uses a Dual-Link DVI port. It also uses a USB port with the Dual-Link DVI connection when connected with the Mini DisplayPort cable.
