The item is an antique torpedo-shaped blob top soda bottle, from the late 19th century. These bottles were designed to be stored on their side to keep the cork wet and prevent the carbonation from escaping. Oval-shaped with a round bottom, making it impossible to stand upright. Made of thick, heavy glass, often with a greenish or aquamarine tint. Used for carbonated beverages like soda water, mineral water, and ginger ale. Predominantly used from the mid-1800s until they were replaced by bottles that could stand upright. Has a makers mark appearing to show “M B” This is a beautiful collectors item.
