Along with the numerous commemorative stamps celebrating America's bicentennial, the United States Postal Service issued two stamps denominated at the first-class rate of thirteen cents. The first stamp featured the first flag of the United States with its thirteen stars in a circle above Independence Hall. This stamp was printed with two different perforation measures in sheets of one hundred. A third version of the stamp was printed in a horizontal coil format. The second Flag issue featured the current fifty-star flag of the United States over the Capitol. This stamp was printed with two different perforation measures in a booklet pane format.
