This is an ungraded, circulated 1788 Barbados One Penny, also known as a "Pineapple Penny." This copper penny was actually a token coin privately commissioned for circulation by Sir Philip Gibbs (allegedly), and was not officially recognized as colonial currency. The obverse side features the bust of an African man wearing a plumed crown above the words "I Serve," and the reverse features a large pineapple above the year, surrounded by the legend "Barbadoes Penny." Although difficult to determine just how many of these "pennies" exist, sources suggest only 5,376 were struck. The exact coin you see in the photos is what you will receive.
